Pipeline Oceanhouse Hawaii
BANZAI PIPELINE
This Hawaiian Villa, known as the “pipeline” house, is located next to the world famous Banzai pipeline. "Banzai" is a Japanese word used to make a toast. It is also a battle cry. "Pipeline" in this case refers to the huge, barrel-shape waves that present a challenge to even the best surfers who compete in the Pro Master World Surf Championships held here in mid-December, when Billabong leases the villa to house its surf champions, including Andy Irons.

PIPELINE HOUSE HAWAII
The villa is on a private road alongside a bike path that leads from Sunset Beach to Waimea Falls. Starbucks is within walking distance, as is Foodland for groceries. There is also a Farmer’s Market every Saturday across the street from the villa at Sunset Beach Elementary School which sells organic produce. There is shopping and half a dozen excellent restaurants in Haleiwa, six miles away. We recommend Haleiwa Eats, Cholos, and Macky’s for fresh shrimp.

There are five private suites in the villa, which stands three stories high and is right on a beautiful sandy beach. There are ocean views from every bedroom and all have hardwood floors and ceiling fans. There is also room to accommodate caregivers and maid service is available for a fee. A “baby pack” (high chair and playpen) is available if needed. The villa provides basic beach equipment (beach chairs and some snorkel gear). All linens are provided (towels, sheets, pillows, etc), as well as basic toiletries (soap, toilet paper, paper towels, et al).

The private lanai is ideal for outdoor dining, whale watching and catching rainbows. The new gourmet kitchen features a Wolf stove with a built in griddle. There are two refrigerators, two dishwashers and lots of pantry space as well as containers for recycling. There are two clothes washers and two dryers, as well as an outdoor shower to rinse off the sea salt and sand.

Wireless internet is available throughout the villa and there is also a wireless security system. There is a flat screen TV, DVD player and stereo. The sound system can be piped into every room in the house. Please enjoy our collection of Hawaiian memorabilia, books and vintage posters.

Where in the World is the North Shore of Oahu?
And what is there to do there?

The North Shore of Oahu is 40 minutes from Honolulu International airport and is an easy commute from Los Angeles or San Francisco. While it is a resort area it is distinctly different from Waikiki with its designer boutiques. Here, coffee beans are now grown locally instead of pineapple and there’s an organic farmer’s market every Saturday at the local elementary school. And this is a place where surfboards (long and short) are still hand-made with great pride.

Besides its extraordinary location on the North Shore’s ‘miracle mile’ what this villa has to offer is LUXURY, COMFORT, and CONVENIENCE. The best of indoor-outdoor living awaits you at the only beachfront property of its kind on Oahu’s North Shore. Make this private retreat, this sanctuary, your personal playground. Imagine arriving with family and friends at this luxurious villa to a festive luau prepared by your own private chef? Enjoy the sunset and fall asleep to the rhythm of the waves. What’s that wonderful fragrance? You can use the flowers from your own Plumeria tree to make traditional leis.

And you don’t need to surf to enjoy this area.
Live like a local in your flip-flops and shorts. The Hawaiian Beach Villa is within walking distance of Foodland and Starbucks. Old town Haleiwa offers shopping, great restaurants, as well as fly-fishing and whale watching tours out of the marina. Turtle Bay Resort has a world-class golf course, spa, and offers horseback riding on the beach. Waimea Bay has great hiking trails. Be sure to eat out of one of the award-winning shrimp trucks (“Garlic or coconut?”) parked along the roadside. Snorkeling anyone?

TRAVEL
Almost all major airlines fly into Honololu daily, which is approximately a 5-hour plane ride from Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver, Canada. The Hawaiian Beach Villa, which is on the North Shore, is 30-minutes from Honolulu International Airport and less than an hour from Waikiki Beach which is on the opposite side of the island of Oahu. You can get to the North Shore by car rental, limousine (which must be booked in advance) or the commuter bus that goes all the way around the island in a continuous loop. See you in Hawaii!!!

TEMPERATURE
There are two seasons on the North Shore: winter (November to January), when there are 20-foot waves, ideal for the surf competitions held in the area during that time. The rest of the year water sports abound. During both seasons the water and air temperature is comfortable, ranging between 70 and 85 degrees. Everyone walks around here in their bathing suits, sarongs and sandals - day and night! Casual, laid-back is the vibe, even when dining out. Yes, it does rain sometimes but never for very long. And yes, it does get cool but never cold enough for even a wool sweater. What you need here is lots of sunscreen, a hat, and a pair of running shoes for hiking and walking the mile-long bike path that leads straight to Starbucks!!!

DID YOU KNOW???
That the surf industry, an $8 billion business, is currently dominated by Quiksilver (which also owns Roxy, its division oriented towards young girls and women), Billabong (which sponsors the Pro Masters World Surf Championships), and Volcom. All three companies now own property on the North Shore of Oahu.
Other well-known surf companies include: O’Neill, Oakley, Rip Curl, Hurley, and Red Bull. All rent private residences on the North Shore during the annual Triple Crown world surf championships held each December, when the local population doubles!!!

Surf culture has its own language, lifestyle, and eclectic fashions.

DID YOU ALSO KNOW???
Of the over 7 million visitors to Hawaii last year two-thirds came from the U.S. and the majority of those were from California? Average length of stay: 9 days. The purpose of their trip: pleasure.
Most visited island: Oahu!!!

"GREEN" INITIATIVE
When this Hawaiian Beach Villa was renovated in the spring of 2007 every effort was made to take advantage of the natural environment and to use sustainable materials. While going "green" added approximately 20% to the cost of the improvements, we felt it was a worthwhile investment and a good way to cut down on allergens inside the house. Jalousie windows were chosen to take advantage of the trade winds and to eliminate the need for air conditioning. The solar panels on the roof heat the two water heaters and plans call for the installation of PV (photovoltaic) technology to reduce electricity costs. There are hardwood floors throughout the house (ipe, an ironwood), except in the common areas which feature slate, pavers and tile. All new windows and doors are low-e, as is the lighting throughout the house. While residential "green" houses have minimum requirements related to energy efficiency, air emissions, and water conservation the biggest challenge in Hawaii is waste recycling. Please do your part. For more information on going "green" contact architect David Hertz, AIA, who planned the remodel of this Hawaiian Beach Villa. He can be reached at: www.hertz@studioea.com (Studio of Environmental Architecture).
